Mental Health and Well Being

Mental Health,

What is Mental health?

Mental health is about your psychological wellbeing. your emotions, your feelings, your thoughts and how you feel about yourself. Its related also to your physical health and wellbeing. It’s how you process your everyday.

Mental Ill Health is when your feelings, behaviour, emotions, thinking or reactions undertake a significant change and effect how you function or cause distress.

It may range from your everyday life and feeling stressed or overwhelmed, to having experienced a more serious life event which then affects your normal way of living. It may result in your harming yourself or others and being unable to carry out your normal routine. Linked back to my post and blog on Anxiety and Stress.

Mental health and well-being are closely linked. Well- being can be different for everyone depending on their beliefs, education, overall health and what it means to them.

Reading through the report by the Children’s society, well-being very much supports your mental health and in young children can be seen by, how they look at themselves and how happy they are, and how they feel in relation to their emotions.

If we can support their overall wellbeing and boost self-confidence it can have an important impact in your overall mental health and wellbeing. The small changes can have an impact to help avoid mental health problems.

Small things for example to support your wellbeing;

Doing something nice for someone,

Getting active every day,

Connecting with those around you,

Noticing all the things around you,

Self-improvement or learning, working on your own development

I found these quotes which I think sum up some of what this means.

“Mental health is not just the absence of mental disorder. It is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to contribute to her or his community."

You care about yourself and you care for yourself. You love yourself, not hate yourself. You look after your physical health – eat well, sleep well, exercise and enjoy yourself.” (quotes from Wikipedia Sept 19)
